More than half of the business people in Bulgaria single out corruption as the main problem of this country, a non-government organization said Tuesday. Corruption is the most significant social issue according 56% of the Bulgarian business people, the anti-corruption Coalition 2000 said. A survey by the group showed that customs officers were considered the most corrupt state officials. Next ranked members of Parliament, police and political leaders, according to the survey. Most frequently businesses give bribes to obtain licenses, win public procurement orders or evade taxes, the survey showed. It said that more than 95% of the businessmen, who encountered corrupt state officials, did not react legally because of being pessimistic about the possible outcome.
